![]() ![]() One more thing before we begin, make sure to cut as much background noise as possible. I'm going to be bold, I want 75% of the people reading this to get a great mix instead of 100% of people getting a sorta decent one. This guide won't sound good for every song with every person. I'm not going to preach to you on the importance of learning this stuff for yourself or post 25 disclaimers to cover my ass if this doesn't sound good on every song for every person. This combo was chosen because it seems the most likely to help people in this sub. ![]() Thats not to say these tips won't work if you have a dynamic mic or record in a studio, most of the information probably will, I'm just saying I'm not going to broaden or water down the guide to account for all possible scenarios. This guide is specifically for people recording hip hop music in their bedroom with a $100+ condenser mic. They just want good quality in the mean time. A lot of people on this sub are artists who don't necessarily want to spend 8 years learning to mix, and they can't always afford to pay an engineer. It also takes years of study and practice. ![]() I'm going to repeat some disclaimers from my last guide, before I get people in the comments saying "omg just learn to mix properly". If you didn't like the way the last guide sounded, maybe you'll have more luck with this one, or maybe if you want your tone to change throughout the song, maybe use the last guide for the hook and this guide for the verses. This chain gives slightly more natural vocals, think more Young Thug/J Cole (referring to how the vocals sit in the mix), rather than Drake, who's vocals I used as a reference for the last guide. This guide will use a vocal chain that is a bit different from the last one I posted. I did a mixing guide a few months ago here, and it was well received, so I though I'd do a follow up post. I mix mostly for smaller artists as a way to make a living while I work on production, but I've worked with a lot of pro mixers and I mix to a professional quality. I'm making my way up in the production world, and I have songs with artists you've heard of, but due to the huge delay in the release of professional music, a lot of my biggest credits are songs that aren't out yet. I am professional hip-hop producer and engineer. ![]()
